Diseases Caused From Asbestos

Types of Asbestos

There are several types of asbestos that are known to cause mesothelioma and other cancers.

Chrysolite

Amosite

Crocidolite

Tremolite

Actinolite

Anthophyllite

International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is the largest international agency that studies cancer in the world. IARC is a division of the World Health Organization and has officially opined:

5. Evaluation

There is sufficient evidence in humans for the carcinogenicity of all forms of asbestos (chrysotile, crocidolite, amosite, tremolite, actinolite, and anthophyllite). Asbestos causes mesothelioma and cancer of the lung, larynx, and ovary. Also positive associations have been observed between exposure to all forms of asbestos and cancer of the pharynx, stomach, and colorectum. For cancer of the colorectum, the Working Group was evenly divided as to whether the evidence was strong enough to warrant classification as sufficient.

There is sufficient evidence in experimental animals for the carcinogenicity of all forms of asbestos (chrysotile, crocidolite, amosite, tremolite, actinolite and anthophyllite).

All forms of asbestos (chrysotile, crocidolite, amosite, tremolite, actinolite and anthophyllite) are carcinogenic to humans (Group 1)

Reference

Pleural Mesothelioma

Pleural mesothelioma occurs in the lining of the lungs and is caused by occupational exposure and through exposure to asbestos contaminated clothes that are washed with the clothes of the worker. Quite often, the children and/or the wife of the worker contract mesothelioma and other cancers due to exposure to asbestos from the fathers clothes.

Pleural Mesothelioma - Pleural Disease

Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Peritoneal mesothelioma occurs in the lining of the abdomen and is caused by occupational exposure and through exposure to asbestos contaminated clothes that are washed with the clothes of the worker. Quite often, the children and/or the wife of the worker contract mesothelioma and other cancers due to exposure to asbestos from the fathers clothes.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma - Peritoneal Cancer

Other Types of Mesothelioma

Other types of mesothelioma include Testicular and Pericardial Mesothelioma. These types of mesothelioma are less common but are seen in workers exposed to asbestos and can occur through exposure to asbestos-contaminated clothes that are washed with the clothes of the worker. Quite often, the children and/or the wife of the worker contract mesothelioma and other cancers due to exposure to asbestos from the fathers clothes.

Testicular Mesothelioma

Pericardial Mesothelioma

Other Asbestos Cancers

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer occurs in the ovaries of a woman and is caused by occupational exposure and through exposure to asbestos contaminated clothes that are washed with the clothes of the worker. Quite often, the daughter or the wife of the worker contract ovarian cancer and other cancers due to exposure to asbestos from the fathers clothes.
